The Last Ambassador
by Natalie Halla
The Last Ambassador tells the story of Manizha Bakhtari, Afghanistan’s ambassador in Vienna, who continued to represent her country after the Taliban returned to power in 2021.
Despite growing isolation and mounting difficulties, Bakhtari chooses to continue opposing the regime and advocating for the rights of Afghan women and girls. Through the Daughters programme, she supports the clandestine education of young women in Afghanistan and brings their voices to the international stage. A portrait of political resistance, responsibility and civic commitment in the face of the progressive erosion of women’s rights in the country.
