Cutting Through Rocks

Nominated for the 2026 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, Cutting Through Rocks tells the story of Sara Shahverdi, the first woman elected to the council of a remote Iranian village.
A motorcyclist, former midwife and activist within her community, Sara challenges conventions and patriarchal structures while supporting the autonomy of women and girls: she teaches them how to ride motorcycles and takes action against child marriage. An intimate and powerful portrait of emancipation, resistance and social transformation in contemporary Iran.

The screening will be followed by a talk with Shervin Haravi, an Italian-Iranian lawyer and human rights activist.
