Isao Hosoe

ISAO HOSOE. Il Trickster del Design en-US

Isao Hosoe (1942–2015) was a Japanese aerospace engineer and designer who made Milan his home.
The exhibition, curated by Francesco Zurlo together with a group of designers, academics, and family members, retraces the key stages of his work and design methodology.

The show is structured around six key concepts – Play, Behavioral Energy, Fluidity, N[e]omadism, Proxemics, Bricoleur– and presents Hosoe’s projects through sketches, prototypes, models, and videos.

At its core is the installation “Cloud – The Cloud of Isao”, created by Studio Sawada Design, which gathers hundreds of suspended sketches and notes. The exhibition also includes the reconstruction of part of the Isao Hosoe Design studio, unpublished video interviews from 2000, and a selection of products developed for companies such as Kartell, Steelcase, Loccioni, Tonelli Design, and others.

The exhibition presents design as a practice capable of moving across disciplines and languages, highlighting Hosoe’s approach in the transition from idea to final product.
