Experiencing Design

How can design be narrated today?

“Experiencing Design” stems from this question, and from the desire to complement the traditional museum visit with new ways of discovery, more open, interactive, and aligned with how we engage with and explore content today.

Thanks to the support of Fondazione TIM, as part of the “Experiencing Art” initiative, ADI Design Museum has developed a project that integrates digital tools into the exhibition path, with the aim of making the experience more accessible, engaging, and capable of speaking to diverse audiences.

During the visit, the museum is enriched with new layers of interpretation: multimedia content accessible via QR codes, dedicated in-depth features, and the opportunity to interact with a digital avatar designed to guide visitors in discovering the Compasso d’Oro and the history of Italian design.

At the entrance, an interactive totem invites visitors to begin their experience, while tablets and mobile devices allow them to explore additional content along the way. Among these is the possibility to observe up close, and from every angle, the Lettera 22, awarded the Compasso d’Oro in 1954 during the prize’s first edition: a symbolic choice that creates a dialogue between the origins of Italian design and contemporary technologies.

The project does not change the museum, it expands it. It offers visitors the freedom to choose how deeply to explore, how long to pause, and what to focus on. It transforms the visit into a more personal experience, where each visitor can shape their own path.

Alongside the exhibition spaces, the museum’s website gathers and organizes content, materials and information, becoming a constantly accessible archive and research tool that allows the experience to continue even after the visit.

“Experiencing Design” is, above all, a way to bring audiences closer to cultural heritage through digital means, making it more immediate, understandable and alive. The project is made possible thanks to the support of Fondazione TIM, which promotes initiatives that place technology at the service of culture, with the aim of making artistic heritage more accessible, inclusive, and capable of engaging ever wider audiences.

Through the “Experiencing Art” call, it supports activities that experiment with new modes of engagement, creating experiences that bring people closer to culture in a more direct and participatory way, while exploring new forms of relationship between culture and technology.
