Italia Geniale. Design Enables
Curated by Francesco Zurlo and Carlo Martino
Graphic and exhibition design by Studio SM5
Exhibition created in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, in collaboration with Unioncamere and the Italian Trade Agency (ICE).
Starting from the enhancement of the heritage of trademarks and patents of our country, the exhibition presents images, materials, and Italian design products that speak of imagination, work, well-being, and interpersonal relationships, touching on both material and technical culture, intertwined with the history of design.
Design as a means to enhance and legitimize personal capabilities is the conceptual starting point of the research, expressed in the subtitle of the exhibition: Design Enables. According to this principle, the exhibited objects were selected—many from the Historical Collection of the Compasso d'Oro and preserved at the ADI Design Museum in Milan.
The exhibition is divided into five thematic areas:
- Imagin-able: imagining, creating worlds, inventing stories that become part of our identity.
- Work-able: functional and beautiful objects—products, services, and systems that support work activities.
- Relation-able: artifacts that support or activate interpersonal relationships.
- Live-able: objects related to physical and mental well-being, focusing on self-care and care for others.
- Move-able: objects that facilitate freedom of movement in a sustainable way, respectful of people and the environment.
