THE REDISCOVERED ARCHIVE. A pop-up museum of board games
A series of meetings curated by Spartaco Albertarelli and Stefano Mirti, dedicated to the board game as an object of design and as a document of Italian material culture.
Through graphics, materials, rules and imaginaries, the historic archive of Editrice Giochi, saved and preserved by Spartaco Albertarelli, becomes the starting point for a reflection on the relationship between game, design and society.

Football / boards
Reference game: Subbuteo and sports games.
A meeting dedicated to sports games and to the representation of the playing field as a designed space. Starting from Subbuteo and from the rich strand of games linked to football and sport, the evening explores the role of the board as a map, a territory and a system of visual rules.

Television / visual identity
Reference game: Bis by Mike Bongiorno.
An in-depth look at the relationship between television, popular culture and board games. From quizzes to television formats, the meeting recounts how characters, languages and imaginaries born on screen were translated into boxes, boards and cards, contributing to the construction of the game’s visual identity.

Major licences / packaging
Reference game: the Star Wars game.
A meeting dedicated to the role of major international licences in the history of Italian board games. Through recognisable characters and narrative universes, the evening analyses packaging as a tool of communication and seduction, capable of transforming the box into the promise of an experience.

Prototypes / the design process
Reference game: Alex Randolph’s prototypes.
An appointment dedicated to the design process of the game, before its transformation into a finished product. Prototypes, hand-written rules, trials, errors and intuitions become materials of investigation to understand how a game is born and how an idea progressively takes shape.

War games / cartographies
Reference game: Risiko.
A meeting dedicated to war games and to the representation of maps, territories and borders. From Risiko to historical wargames, the evening explores the relationship between game, cartography and the narration of history, questioning the way in which conflict is transformed into a system of rules and visual representation.
