Spinamatic beer dispenser/tap

The Compasso d'Oro 1964 is awarded to the beer dispenser designed by the architects Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni; the jury recognizes in the object awarded the commitment through the design to identify a totally new “character” of collective consumption, taking into account its participation in an overall context which is the “landscape” of our everyday actions. In our opinion, this identification is achieved through a precise flexible characterization in which the functional data of the problem are summarized: the minimum space occupied, the easy cleanability and disassembly, the technical problems of product distribution, the connections with the advertising elements. The characteristics of the procedure by stylistic definition of the bodywork are transformed in this case into an unprecedented “communication design” solution whose success gives dignity to a design purpose that is too often underestimated.
