Reason for the award:
The Necchi sewing machine, which was given the La Rinascente Compasso d'Oro award, stands out for an unprecedented conception of the relationship between the technical content of the product and the aesthetic quality of the cover. This, created thanks to Nizzoli’s well-known sensitivity and sense of proportions in a flexible form inspired by contemporary non-figurative sculpture and yet justified by respect for the internal dimensions, is interrupted where the greater concentration of mechanical functions (as in the head and in the back) is revealed in its considerable technological character.
