Reason for the award:
Faced with the remarkable products presented this year in the field of chairs and armchairs, at the end of the discussion the Jury recognized the interest and the level of the problem raised by the chair designed by the architect Albini, both in terms of the elementary solution of the joints between legs, armrest and backrest, and for the inherent formality of the grafts of the material, the visible unions, and the production problems connected to the entire conception of the structure. With the assignment of the "La Rinascente Compasso d'Oro 1955" award, in addition to restating the ingenuity and conceptual ownership of the aesthetic technical solutions intrinsic to the object presented, and as well as signalling the constancy and commitment that the designer has demonstrated for years in constantly modifying and revising his work, the Jury also wish to draw the attention of both Italian manufacturers and the general public to the problems that the Albini chair raises
