CMC7 – 7004 magnetic character marking machine

The Compasso d'oro 1964 is awarded to the CMC7-7004 programmable magnetic printer designed by the architect Mario Bellini, for the consistency and relevance with which the use of a particular technology (that of the folded plastic sheet) is explored up to the point of producing  the  best developed and well-ordered solutions to the functional problem proposed and then continuously integrated up to the creation of a compact formal result. The rigorous design methodology and the radical questioning of every functional, formal and technological data, establish in our opinion the most original characteristics of the work that the jury intended to reward here, and which are the elements that have made it possible to carry out in this case a further step forward in a product sector already well provided with previous examples.
