Reason for the award:
The "La Rinascente Compasso d'oro 1956 Award" was given to the Alcedo fishing reel for the effort which the designer put into having a mechanism recognized as a form by carefully studying all its details. The Alcedo reel shows that both the technical-economic factor and the aesthetic-functional factor have been kept in mind at every stage of the design: this same attitude towards every stage has resulted in a highly aesthetic unity
